Which sounds more appealing to you? Purchasing produce that was grown hundreds of miles away by an anonymous farmer and then shipped by truck to your grocery store or fruits and vegetables grown right down the street by your neighbor whom you’ve known for several years.
These days, the focus is on locally grown produce and it’s easy to see why! This produce is often much healthier for you and also tends to last longer.
Thankfully in Sheridan, we have our very own farmer’s market that sells local produce. If you have never checked it out, I recommend that you do so this weekend!
Downtown Sheridan Wyoming Farmers Market Is A Popular Destination for Residents
This year’s Sheridan farmers market begins July 10 and will operate weekly on Thursdays through Sept. 25.
Market hours are 5 to 7 p.m. and will be held at Grinnell Plaza.
To mark the closing of the market in the fall, there will even be a special Fall Festival on Oct. 4. That event always attracts large crowds so make sure to get there early!
During a visits to the farmers market, you’ll be impressed by all of the fresh produce, arts and crafts offered by local growers and artisans.
What’s more, you’ll enjoy some impressive performances by weekly musicians hired to create a festive atmosphere.
There are even children’s events as well as youth activities that both entertain and educate your child on the importance of locally grown food.
Ultimately the goals of the farmers market are to increase farm and ranch profitability, offer a low-cost marketing opportunity to small producers, provide a direct connection between the producer and the consumer and provide a place for people in the community to meet and socialize.
And as someone who frequents this market, I can attest: This event is truly a convergence of the whole community. Even if you’re not interested in purchasing anything, it’s a great opportunity to get out of the house and talk with your neighbors.
