In 2023, a report highlighted America’s “loneliness epidemic,” revealing that about half of U.S. adults experience loneliness due to social disconnection. Despite this, the joy of homeownership remains strong, as it facilitates community connection. Century 21® aims to understand the motivations and sentiments of today’s homebuyers through research.
Survey Reveals Community Connection is Key for Today’s Homebuyers
Century 21® conducted a survey with Ipsos, involving over 1,000 recent or intending homebuyers aged 18-64. Key findings indicate that a strong connection to local community is crucial for these buyers.
Key Findings:
- Positive Emotions: Most recent homebuyers feel positive about the buying process, with variations across generations. Gen Z expressed joy and gratitude, while Millennials reported the highest levels of happiness and hope.
- Community Importance: Homebuyers prioritize space and lifestyle while valuing closeness to family and friends. Notably, 88% are willing to compromise on their dream home to find the right community.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Today’s homebuyers, especially Millennials, are open-minded about community, with 90% willing to build connections despite political differences. They seek diverse environments for their families.
- Community Engagement: Many recent/intending homebuyers wish to actively participate in their communities. The role of real estate agents is crucial in helping them connect and engage, with a significant portion valuing agents who understand local dynamics.
