3 Things You’ll Love About This Sheridan Park

The Sheridan Park is a place where you and your family can enjoy a full afternoon of quality time together. From quiet alcoves in the shade to exciting matches on the tennis courts, there is something for every interest level to enjoy here.

Here are three reasons why Sheridan families love spending their afternoons in this park:

  • It features its own swimming pool, which is well-maintained and inviting
  • Ice cream is sold in the park all throughout the summer
  • It’s close to the Carriage House, which is where local plays and shows are presented

The Kendrick Ice Cream Stand, located in the center of the park at the intersection of Beaver and Badger Streets, is an icon all on its own. Serving 32 flavors and counting, the stand is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. now through Labor Day.

In addition to serving various flavors of delicious ice cream, not to mention Italian sodas, hot dogs, polish dogs and more delectable treats.

Once you’ve cooled off a little bit with some delicious ice cream, head over to the Kendrick Pool. This swimming pool is quite sizeable and is a family favorite around Sheridan.

For those who prefer a little friendly competition, you may want to head over to the tennis courts in this park, which will provide hours of entertainment for your most athletic family members.

Afterward, you may consider heading over to the Carriage House for an evening of top notch performances by local actors and actresses.

A Unique History Behind the Excellent Performances at the Carriage House Theatre

Located on the grounds of the Trail End State Historic Site, this house was finished in 1910 and built in the same Flemish style as the main house.

During the construction of Trail End, the Kendrick family and their cook actually lived in the carriage house, adapting it for their everyday uses. During that time, the horse stalls stood in as bedrooms for Rosa-Maye and the cook while the parents slept upstairs in the hayloft.

Despite its original intended purposes, no horses or carriages were ever housed at the Carriage House. By the time the main house was ready for the family, they owned two 1912 Cadillac automobiles, rendering the need for horses obsolete.

Years after the death of Senator Kendrick, the carriage house mostly was used for storage. But then, in 1979, the 3,013-square-foot building was converted into an 87-seat community theater by the Sheridan Civic Theatre Guild.

It is still in use for that purpose today, attracting theater lovers from all over the region!
